JKM
have worked on a host of the leading ECU types available to the aftermarket.
The most common ECU type that we see is the Emerald ECU in K3 Specification. On production cars, Manufactures spend countless hours perfecting their tune for Power delivery, Smooth running, Cold start performance, Fuel consumption not to mention many of the environmental constraints that they must meet. This development even continues when the car has been sold to the public (Software development continues and updates are sent out to main dealerships for installation during the cars service life). |
| In
the after market tuning scene, due to time constraints and budgets often
varying from customer to customer, At JKM we have scaled our aftermarket
Programmable ECU mapping into 3 stages, to suit each customer’s
requirements. Due to our knowledge of the Emerald programming software, the estimations below are based against mapping work being performed on typical Emerald K3 ECU Installations. |
||
| - Race & Road ready mapping |
| Race
and Road Ready mapping... Dyno Calibration of Fuel and Ignition tables, Air, Coolant and pressure compensation maps. Open loop Boost control will be setup, along with Basic configurations of Multimap ECU’s (where appropriate). Due to time constraints only basic Cold Start Calibration mapping will be performed. This map will enable the car to be used on the Track or road, but may require more time to be spent with the car during the cold start up phase each morning. This level of mapping typically takes a 5 hour Dyno session from beginning to end. (Including strapping down and cool down phases where required) |
| - Street car/Competition Race Calibration |
| As
per the JKM stage 1 Tune + In depth cold start condition mapping, + In depth Boost control mapping for part load conditions etc. For road legal cars, this level may include connecting our portable Autronic wideband Air Fuel ratio monitoring equipment and road data logging and tuning of part throttle and light load sites (Motorway cruising etc). More in depth tuning of MultiMap ECU’s for different fuel octane levels, boost limits etc. Tuning of simple General Purpose outputs for items such as water injection etc. This level of mapping would be the best solution for an every day used road car, or a higher powered road car looking for a more complete tune. This level of mapping typically takes up 10 hours of Dyno time (Spread over 4 days) from beginning to end. The Additional time will enable us to perform multiple cold starts for the best state of tune. |
| - Complete ECU calibration |
| As
per the JKM stage 2 Tune + This level of mapping will be very much specific to each customer’s individual requirements. However it would typically include many stages of the following (where appropriate to the actual ECU install). Set up and comprehensive monitoring of closed loop fuel tuning (Where a Wideband probe is already installed) Multimap Ignition tuning. i.e 95RON / 99RON and 100+RON ( Where 100+ RON is provided by customer ) Multimap Boost level setup. Gear Selectable boost setup. (Road and Dyno) Traction Control Set up. EGT feedback tuning. This is the top tier level of mapping that JKM offer. This level of mapping would typically take approximately 15+ hours of Dyno time (Spread over 10 days) from the beginning of the tune to the end. Due to the level of this tune, The vehicle would be needed for this period of time to enable us to see the car in multiple environmental conditions. |
